Description
Interreg is the central EU funding instrument for promoting territorial cooperation across Europe. The program supports cross-border, transnational, and interregional projects in the fields of regional development, culture, sustainability, digitalization, energy efficiency, and climate protection. Its goal is to strengthen economic, social, and territorial cohesion by reducing regional disparities and promoting innovation, environmental protection, and social cohesion. Public institutions, municipalities, educational institutions, research organizations, NGOs, cultural and creative professionals, as well as companies and start-ups, can submit applications on an ongoing basis. A prerequisite for approval is always a partnership cooperation of at least two project partners from different EU regions and alignment with the objectives of the respective Interreg sub-program.
Funding is provided for personnel and material costs, travel expenses, mobility, infrastructure measures within the project context, as well as networking and exchange activities. Applications are evaluated based on their relevance to the strategic priorities of the chosen sub-program, the quality of the partnership structure, and the added value through transnational cooperation. Interreg is divided into three strands: A (cross-border cooperation of neighboring regions), B (transnational cooperation in larger program areas), and C (interregional networking and knowledge exchange). This diversity offers numerous opportunities for cultural and creative projects – from establishing cross-border cultural routes to developing sustainable urban development strategies and networking museums and artistic networks. Through continuous submission opportunities, Interreg provides flexible funding prospects for forward-looking projects that bring Europe closer together and jointly address local challenges.
