Invest BW – Innovation III

The Innovation Initiative Invest BW – Innovation III supports companies, research institutions, and universities based in Baden-Württemberg in cross-industry research, development, and innovation projects. The focus is on future technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, health technologies, innovative mobility systems, CO₂-neutral energy storage, as well as climate protection and resource efficiency. Both technical and non-technical new developments are funded, including process and service innovations, data-based smart services, and service platforms that open up new products, business models, or digital services. The application process is conducted in two stages: first, a project outline is submitted, followed by a formal funding application upon positive evaluation.

For individual projects, the maximum funding amount is up to €650,000, and for collaborative projects up to €1.3 million; the funding rate ranges from 15% to 100%, depending on the company size. Eligible applicants are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as consortia of companies and research institutions with headquarters or branches in Baden-Württemberg. Essential requirements include predominantly conducting the project within the funding area, sufficient creditworthiness, qualified personnel, and completion of the measure by no later than 31.12.2027. For collaborative projects, a written cooperation agreement is required. The funding decision is based on the degree of innovation, relevance to the target technology, and cooperation capability.
