Investive and Non-Investive Measures in Bicycle and Bicycle Tourism Traffic ("Get on Your Bike Funding Guideline")

The funding program "Get on Your Bike" is aimed at public institutions in Schleswig-Holstein and supports both investment and non-investment measures to improve cycling traffic and cycling infrastructure. It is provided as a grant and aims to implement the Cycling Strategy 2030 by expanding, optimizing, and qualitatively enhancing existing cycle paths. The focus is on both structural projects, such as the renewal and expansion of regional long-distance routes, as well as accompanying measures like feasibility studies, municipal planning, and cycling tourism campaigns. This funding is intended to make it easier for more people to switch to the bicycle as an everyday means of transport and to sustainably increase traffic safety. All projects contribute to establishing cycling as an environmentally friendly, future-oriented form of mobility.

The guideline supports a variety of projects that address the challenges of modern mobility. Projects are funded that not only implement infrastructural adjustments but also integrate digital and conceptual innovations. Measures include, for example, planning services by external experts, investments in the fundamental quality improvement of cycle paths, as well as the implementation of innovative cycling campaigns and training measures. A prerequisite for funding is, among other things, that the applicant’s registered office is located in Schleswig-Holstein, the overall financing of the project is secured, and the project can be implemented in an accessible and traffic-compliant manner. The funding rate ranges between 75 and 90 percent of eligible expenses, which particularly benefits municipal institutions in financially challenging situations.

Applications must be submitted before the start of the measure and require the submission of a project description, a detailed financing plan, and, for investment measures, the necessary building permits. Through this funding, municipalities, districts, independent cities, administrative offices, and other non-profit legal entities in Schleswig-Holstein have the opportunity to implement sustainable and innovative projects in cycling traffic. The funds serve not only to ensure the expansion of the cycling network but also to realize concepts that contribute to increasing cycling tourism attractiveness and preventing accidents. Overall, the program makes a significant contribution to securing climate-friendly mobility and enhancing the quality of life in both urban and rural regions of the federal state.
