Description
The JOANES Foundation initiates a nationwide student design competition with the JOANES Prize, dedicated to developing innovative concepts for cooperative housing above supermarkets. Participating students from various disciplines are invited to create forward-looking prototypes and evaluate their ideas based on originality, feasibility, and innovative character. The goal is not only to award outstanding designs but above all to realize the winning project in cooperation with renowned partners from architecture, engineering, and cooperative sectors. With this initiative, the foundation contributes to the integration of housing and infrastructure and promotes sustainable, community-oriented living forms in urban neighborhoods.
Eligible to participate are enrolled individuals, competing individually or in teams. The jury awards prize money in four tiers: €2,500 for 1st place, €2,000 for 2nd place, €1,500 for 3rd place, and €1,000 for 4th place. Relevant evaluation criteria include the level of innovation of the ideas, their practical feasibility, and design creativity. The call is addressed to students of all German universities and colleges who have an interest in architecture, urban planning, research, and modernization. By supporting these forward-looking projects, the foundation sets impulses for an affordable and community-organized housing market in Germany.
