Description
The Rudolf Augstein Foundation’s Journalism Scholarship is aimed at talented students and doctoral candidates throughout Germany who aspire to become journalists. Funding of up to €1,000 per month is provided for a maximum duration of 24 months to reliably cover training and living expenses. Beyond financial relief, the program grants access to exclusive networking formats and subject-specific further training that contribute to professional and personal development and sustainably support entry into the media world. The next application round begins in summer 2026, with the application deadline on September 13, 2026.
Eligible to participate are enrolled students and doctoral candidates with a clear career goal of becoming a journalist. Meaningful application documents must be submitted, including a CV, proof of enrollment or doctoral registration, and a letter of motivation; promising candidates will be thoroughly assessed in a personal selection interview. Key selection criteria are journalistic talent, intellectual and communicative skills, commitment, and motivation – with doctoral candidates additionally required to demonstrate scientific excellence. The juried selection takes place in two stages: a written review of the documents followed by a personal interview. Through the combination of financial support and targeted development opportunities, the scholarship contributes to sustainably strengthening highly qualified young talent in journalism and generating new impulses for a free, critical press.
