Description
The K.-E.-Loos Award of the Karin Elisabeth Loos Foundation is presented annually to up to three outstanding high school graduates from Wiesbaden grammar schools and secondary schools who demonstrate exceptional commitment and excellent achievements in the natural sciences. With prize money of up to €3,000 per awardee, tuition fees, language stays abroad, guest stays at scientific institutes, or course and internship fees are to be financed, thereby sustainably promoting interest in subjects such as chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, computer science, pharmacy, engineering, or medicine. The school administration initiates the application process for the selected candidates; the submission deadline is February 20 each year.
Eligibility requires long-standing outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements in the natural sciences, consistently very good grades in a relevant advanced course (semesters 12/I to 13/I), and a cross-school grade point average of at least 10 points in German, a foreign language, mathematics, and social studies. Additionally, there must be an intention to pursue a natural science subject or a related degree program, and an annual accountability report on the use of funds must be pledged. A selection committee reviews the quality of the submitted work, certificates, and plans, as well as the social conduct of the applicants, and makes its decision in June during a ceremonial award presentation at Wiesbaden City Hall. With this award, the foundation specifically supports young talent in the natural sciences and simultaneously strengthens the networking between schools, science, and research.
