Karin Biermann Prize for Silesian Research

The Karin Biermann Prize for Silesian Research honors outstanding scholarly works with an explicit reference to the Silesian region and is awarded annually by the Kulturwerk Schlesien Foundation. Recognized are independent dissertations or research contributions distinguished by particular innovation, originality, and a lasting gain in knowledge. The award is aimed at scholars and researchers without institutional restrictions who submit their empirical, linguistic, or cultural studies with a clear Silesian focus. The goal of the prize is to make the cultural heritage of Silesia visible, to set new research impulses, and to strengthen the scientific dialogue about the history and present of this region.

Application requirements include compliance with the published award guidelines as well as the submission of the scholarly work in the required format. Evaluation criteria particularly include the degree of innovation, the quality of source work, methodological rigor, and the contribution to Silesian research.
