Description
Disaster Fund of the State of Salzburg supports natural and legal persons in the state of Salzburg in remedying elemental damages that are not insurable. The fund provides flat-rate grants of up to 30% of the recognized damage amount – a maximum of 500,000 euros per damage case – and is co-financed at 60% by the Federal Ministry of Finance. Funding is provided for material damages caused by floods, landslides, mudflows, avalanches, earthquakes, snow pressure, hurricanes, rockfalls, or hail. There is no legal entitlement to assistance; the allocation is decided by the state government upon recommendation of a specialist commission. Damage assessments must be carried out by official or court-sworn experts; applications must be submitted within six months of the damage occurrence and the settlement completed within three years.
Eligible expenses include repair and restoration measures on buildings, equipment, and machinery, cleanup work, as well as transportation costs and external machinery use. Own labor can be recognized up to 50,000 euros. Damages to luxury items (e.g., secondary residences, jewelry), motor vehicles, loss of turnover, or unauthorized measures are not subsidized. A minimum damage amount of 1,000 euros (from 01.06.2020: 1,500 euros) is required; exceptions may be granted in hardship cases. The amount of funding also depends on family or business income conditions as well as the material burden. Municipalities verify the information before forwarding it to the Office of the Salzburg State Government. Affected companies and private individuals can submit the application online or via the responsible damage municipality to fundamentally secure their existence.
