kick for girls offers protected, same-gender football clubs at primary, secondary, and vocational schools in Freiburg, where girls from diverse social and educational backgrounds can develop football skills as well as personal and social competencies. In a trusting atmosphere free of performance pressure, football-specific exercises, playful introductions, and team experiences are guided by qualified sports coaches promoting integration and diversity. The program creates space for mutual appreciation, fosters fair play and solidarity, and strengthens the participants’ self-confidence. Once a year, the Girls’ Football Day takes place, during which around 200 students from various schools are randomly assigned to mixed teams. Activity stations, fair play points, and the involvement of local clubs enable new encounters and deepen the sense of community.

The funding initiative by the step foundation in Baden-Württemberg targets educational institutions and public organizations in Freiburg that wish to offer girls without club membership the opportunity to participate in sports. Applications can be submitted at any time, with continuous support through grants planned. The goal is to reduce barriers and facilitate access to sports, education, and social engagement for girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through targeted support of children and youth projects, promotion of women, as well as social and democratic participation processes, the program makes an important contribution to integration, empowerment, and equitable development opportunities for young people.
