Description
The Kiel Senior Navigator program of the Karl-Heinz-Howe-Simon-Fiedler Foundation is aimed at seniors aged 63 and over residing in Kiel who are experiencing challenging life situations. It offers an uncomplicated advisory and support service, where an individual needs assessment is conducted following personal contact. Subsequently, the Senior Navigator provides case-specific support during a home visit or a meeting at the Foundation’s premises. All documents are reviewed confidentially, and together with relatives, caregivers, or friends, the specific need for assistance is determined. If this results in an entitlement to funding, an application is completed and signed. The program’s design as a continuously available grant initiative ensures that assistance can be requested at any time.
Eligible expenses include those that contribute to securing basic needs, health care, and everyday necessities. These include, for example, beds, mattresses, and furniture, as well as household electrical appliances – from vacuum cleaners to refrigerators or electric stoves. Other fundable services include foot care, provision of communication devices (telephone, computer, television), nutrition, medications, glasses, hearing aids, and dental prostheses. Clothing, travel costs, daily accompaniment, walkers, and veterinary expenses may also be covered. The evaluation criteria are the proven individual need for assistance and confirmation of a burdensome life situation. Through this approach, the Kiel Senior Navigator enables tailored support for older people, strengthens their participation in social life, and noticeably improves quality of life in old age.
