Feature Film – Production (Film and Media Foundation NRW)

The Film and Media Foundation NRW supports the realization of feature films through a conditionally repayable, interest-free loan covering up to 50 percent of the production costs. A prerequisite is an economic effect of at least 1.5 times in North Rhine-Westphalia: for every euro of funding, at least 1.50 euros of investment must be made within the region. Producers with headquarters or significant production activities in NRW thus receive a reliable financing option that flexibly releases returns from film revenues for new projects. A preliminary consultation with the responsible advisor provides clarity on the required documents and procedures. The foundation places particular emphasis on ecological production standards, compliance with which is mandatory and contributes to the forward-looking orientation of the media location.

Applications are submitted after activation in the online portal and follow four fixed submission deadlines per year. International co-productions are eligible for funding, provided a German co-producer is involved. The maximum funding rate amounts to 50 percent of the total production costs; low-budget projects benefit from special regulations. Producers arrange the consultation appointment at least one week before a submission deadline to ensure timely processing. Decision proposals are reviewed by the foundation’s Film Funding Committee. This loan funding contributes to strengthening the film industry location of North Rhine-Westphalia and sustainably implementing innovative feature film projects.
