Description
The workshop KInspiration – AI & Design in the School Context enables students from the 8th grade onwards across all school types to discover the potential of artificial intelligence as a creative tool. In a practice-oriented design thinking process, participants independently explore societal issues, define problems, develop ideas, and create prototypes. They become familiar with text and image AI tools, practice targeted prompt crafting, and reflect on ethical aspects such as bias, data protection, or deep fakes. Professional designers accompany the process, support conceptual decisions, and simultaneously promote presentation skills as well as aesthetic and technological competencies. A free guide on Designwissen.net provides all materials for independent workshops and teaching units totaling approximately eight lessons.
The concept is aimed at public schools nationwide and requires the presence of at least one teacher. Free school workshops will be offered again in 2026, with dates and deadlines communicated via a newsletter. The workshops can be conducted as a 1- to 2-day format or flexibly in 8×45-minute sessions, with a maximum of 30 students participating. The goal is to inspire young people to engage with AI creatively, reflectively, and critically, while strengthening digital competencies and design awareness in the long term. Teachers receive all necessary materials and benefit from practical instructions to implement the program independently or in cooperation with designers. The offer is funded by the German Design Museum Foundation and is exclusively aimed at non-profit, public educational institutions.
