Description

The annually awarded KlarText Prize from the Klaus Tschira Foundation is aimed at early-career researchers from Germany who have completed their doctorate in biology, chemistry, computer science, geosciences, mathematics, neuroscience, or physics within the last two years. The goal is to present outstanding dissertations in an understandable manner and make them accessible to a broad public. The awarded contributions, presented as a layman-friendly article or infographic, combine scientific quality and originality in their presentation. Through this form of science communication, complex research results are conveyed attractively and foster interest in natural sciences and mathematical topics.

For each subject category, €7,500 is awarded. Submissions require a layman-friendly text or infographic, a CV, and proof of doctorate. The evaluation focuses on comprehensibility, scientific excellence of the doctoral thesis, and creative presentation. In addition to financial recognition, all participants gain access to e-learning courses on topics such as "Writing Clearly" and are included in the active alumni network. The call for applications is issued once a year; exact deadlines can be found on the foundation’s project website. With this initiative, the Klaus Tschira Foundation promotes both the visibility of young scientists and the dialogue between research and society.
