Description
The initiative "Mission Climate-Neutral City" promotes research, development, and demonstration projects in Vienna that advance innovative technologies, system solutions, and mobilization measures for climate neutrality and climate resilience in urban areas. Eligible to apply are public institutions, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and companies of all sizes. Support is provided for projects in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energies, smart cities, digitalization, infrastructure, urban planning, urban renewal, as well as research and innovation. Funding is granted for individual and cooperative projects as well as non-commercial innovation labs and mobilization and networking measures. The funding rate is up to 85%, with a maximum project duration of 60 months; investments in demonstration buildings are recognized as material costs. Key criteria include the degree of innovation, climate impact, relevance to urban development goals, as well as practical feasibility and scalability. Submission is exclusively electronic via eCall; in addition to the project description and work plan, a GANTT chart, consortium agreements, and for demonstration projects a monitoring concept must be attached.
The first submission deadline is July 10, 2025 (focus areas 1, 2, 3.1, 3.2, 4, and R&D services 5.1–5.3), the second on October 9, 2025 (focus areas 3.1–3.3 and R&D service 5.4). The call is valid until December 31, 2030. Project starts are possible from April 17, 2025. For the topic "Urban Pilot Demonstrations," pioneering large cities are preferentially supported; for neighborhood hubs, a letter of intent from the city administration is required. For explorations of small and medium-sized towns (10,000–50,000 inhabitants), a mandate from the city administration is mandatory. Consultation meetings on subtopics 2.2 and 3.3 must take place by June 26 and September 25, 2025, respectively. Further details and all call documents, including the TIKS-2025 guideline, can be found on the FFG website at www.ffg.at/tiks/AS2025.
