Description
The Climate Protection Funding Guideline for Municipalities of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania supports non-commercial municipalities, churches, associations, and foundations with funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for projects aimed at the sustainable reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The goal is to achieve an emissions reduction of at least 30% compared to the baseline situation through increased energy efficiency and the development of intelligent energy systems. Funding is granted as a non-repayable subsidy and can cover up to 70% of eligible expenses depending on the type of measure. Applications can be submitted until 31.12.2029 and must be filed with the State Development Bank Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (LFI) prior to the start of the project.
Eligible projects include, among others, feasibility and preliminary planning studies, investment-related energy savings beyond legal standards, intelligent neighborhood solutions, smart grids, as well as demonstration projects for emission reduction. Applicants must demonstrate a project location in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, secure overall financing, provide necessary permits, and ensure a payback period exceeding five years. The minimum eligible expenses amount to EUR 20,000 (or EUR 2,000 for studies and planning). Funding rates range from 25% to 70%, depending on the type and scope of the project. For application submission, a fully completed application form, a detailed project description, proof of ownership and usage rights, official permits, climate protection indicators, and financing evidence must be included. The guideline supports the path to climate-compatible infrastructure and energy-efficient solutions with clear evaluation criteria such as emission reduction potential, sustainability aspects, and economic viability.
