Description

The Clinical Research program of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) supports non-commercial clinical studies in human and veterinary medicine at Austrian universities, universities of applied sciences, and research institutions, independent of commercial interests. It funds clearly defined projects with a maximum duration of 48 months and limited financial scope, aiming to gain insights for optimizing therapeutic concepts and diagnostic procedures as well as improving clinical practice. Projects with high scientific quality and degree of innovation, designed ethically responsibly and with sex- and gender-relevance, are supported. The involvement of associated research partners, national and international collaborations is possible, provided all participants meet the requirements regarding qualifications, infrastructure, and ethical approval.

Funding is provided as a grant for project-specific expenses (personnel costs, consumables, equipment costs, material and travel expenses, as well as other costs) and applications can be submitted at any time via the electronic application portal elane. Applicants must provide evidence of prior scientific work, a positive decision from an ethics committee, and a suitable research facility in Austria. The evaluation by international experts is based on the degree of innovation, scientific quality, methodology, qualification of the project leadership, and ethical/sex- and gender-relevant aspects. Concurrent applications are limited to a maximum of three projects per project leader. Thus, the program offers research-active scientists a continuous opportunity to conduct independent clinical studies and achieve new insights in human and veterinary medicine.
