Description

The program KomMENT – Competence Development through Mentoring by the FOUNDATION: EDUCATION! EGITIM! is aimed at young people with a migration background in Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia. The goal is to improve equal opportunities and prevent an impending shortage of skilled workers through voluntary engagement. Experienced mentors, often students, academics, and entrepreneurs, accompany participants in lower secondary education, especially from the 9th grade onwards, on their path from school or university to vocational training and employment. Over a twelve-month period, qualification seminars and motivational events provide direct impulses to strengthen self-confidence and career orientation. The mentoring activities are organized in close coordination with cooperation partners at regional schools, minimizing the effort required from mentors while achieving significant impact.

The continuously open funding is aimed at private individuals, educational institutions, and public organizations. Prerequisites for participation as a mentor include an interest in voluntary engagement, a completed CV, and attendance at a qualification seminar. Applications require submission of a current CV and the application form. The FOUNDATION handles coordination with the schools and administrative processing, allowing mentors to focus on substantive guidance. Through voluntary support, the transition into professional life is to be sustainably improved, ultimately making an important contribution to strengthening social cohesion. Applications are possible at any time and offer the opportunity to become part of an intercultural educational initiative as an “Education Angel.”
