The City of Vienna supports the compositional work of Viennese composers. Funding is provided exclusively for compositions that have not yet been premiered, in the fields of new music, improvisation and electronics, music drama (opera, music theater, film), cross-genre contemporary music, and jazz.

Description
Since October 2021, the Composition Funding of the City of Vienna has been supporting talented musicians with their main residence in Vienna in creating new sound worlds. As direct grants, the funds exclusively support works that have not yet been premiered in the fields of New Music, Improvisation & Electronics, Music Drama (Opera, Music Theatre, Film), cross-genre contemporary music, as well as Jazz. The aim is to strengthen the creative capacity of composers aged 18 and over and to anchor innovative projects in the local cultural landscape. Applications can be submitted at any time, with only one project idea per submission date and only one project per person being considered in total.
Interested parties must provide proof of a completed degree or professional compositional activity (curriculum vitae). Requirement is proof of main residence in Vienna as well as adherence to the submission rule that the same composition project may only be submitted once. The straightforward online application allows for unlimited and continuous submissions. The cultural service office City of Vienna – Culture (MA 7) ensures fair allocation of funds and provides advice on organizational questions regarding guidelines, submission modalities, and processing. With this funding initiative, the City of Vienna makes a significant contribution to the diversity and quality of contemporary musical creations in the capital.
