Description
The grant for former caregivers in Styria is aimed at public institutions that support families to whom care and upbringing were once entrusted by court order. After the completion of full upbringing, the entitlement to foster child allowance ceases, which can lead to financial gaps. The program addresses this by covering the difference between the foster child allowance and the actual personal contribution required from those obligated to provide maintenance. The funding is granted indefinitely from January 1, 2026, and can be provided in the form of monthly payments. This ensures that independent caregiving and upbringing remain possible and that the development of the child or adolescent is supported.
Eligible for funding are child and youth welfare agencies that must submit a corresponding application. A prerequisite for approval is that the grant prevents or mitigates an imminent or already occurred disruption in care and that full cost coverage would constitute a financial hardship for those legally obligated to provide maintenance. The goal of the program is the sustainable strengthening of social participation and the assurance of stable care arrangements for children and adolescents. Interested institutions can obtain information about the framework conditions from Department 11 "Social Affairs, Labor and Integration" of the State of Styria and may submit their funding applications continuously starting in 2026.
