Description

Since January 1, 2026, indefinite cost subsidies for developmental preventive assistance for children, adolescents, and (expectant) mothers have been available in Styria. This funding aims to enable early support and guidance in educational and life matters. Providers of assistance – ranging from mobile social pedagogical services to psychological and psychotherapeutic professionals as well as residential facilities – work in a needs-based and outreach-oriented manner to strengthen parents, caregivers, and educators in their pedagogical competence. Pregnant women and mothers in emergency situations, as well as young people in critical life circumstances, receive free counseling services and outpatient or inpatient care to secure developmental opportunities and promote social integration.

Eligible to apply are private individuals, with the application submitted through a child and youth welfare agency. A prerequisite for approval of services is the expectation of independent care and upbringing to promote development. There is no legal entitlement to the cost subsidy; the funding decision is made after reviewing the statutory eligibility requirements. Only expenses for preventive assistance are funded – from counseling to mobile/outpatient support services up to inpatient care. Through financial relief, it is ensured that all parents and caregivers as well as children and adolescents in challenging situations can access expert guidance, thereby strengthening their life management and educational competence in the long term.
