Description
The Bavarian Cultural Fund, Arts Division, supports innovative projects in contemporary art throughout Bavaria – excluding Munich and Nuremberg. Funding is provided for special exhibitions, symposia, and public art initiated by non-governmental and non-commercial organizations or artists whose primary artistic activity is based in Bavaria. Central to this is the supraregional or translocal significance of the projects, which experiment with new forms of presentation and provide cultural stimuli in various parts of the state. Only projects with eligible total costs of at least €10,000 are funded, with the focus on clearly defined project costs rather than ongoing operational expenses.
Funding is granted as a subsidy of up to 30% of eligible costs, with a maximum amount of €1,000,000. Multiple funding from other public sources is excluded, and the project must not have commenced at the time of approval. The decisive criterion is the substantive quality of project implementation. Applications are submitted annually online via the application portal by October 1 for the following year. Required information includes the location and timeframe of the project, participating artists with CVs, the objects to be presented, and, if applicable, an exhibition concept. The responsible authorities are the district governments in whose region the project is carried out; for projects spanning multiple districts, the authority in the region where the applicant is based decides. This funding instrument contributes to keeping Bavaria’s diverse cultural profile vibrant and decentralized.
