Art Scholarships

The State of Styria supports professional artistic and cultural projects with a clear connection to Styria through a flexible scholarship system. Without fixed application deadlines, an independent expert jury nominates outstanding artists from all disciplines to strengthen their activities at the national and international levels. Designed as a grant, the funding covers a wide range of disciplines – from literature and innovative writing techniques to composition and music scholarships, as well as work scholarships for contemporary visual arts. Through the diversity of programs, such as the Lichtungen Poetry Scholarship or the Andrzej Dobrowolski Composition Scholarship, a broad spectrum of creative projects receives a sustainable boost for development.

Eligible applicants include natural persons as well as non-profit organizations and companies that demonstrate excellent artistic achievements and provide concrete evidence of a connection to Styria. Prerequisites for awarding the grants are, in addition to outstanding quality, always the nomination by the expert jury and the thematic, personal, or institutional anchoring in Styrian art and cultural life. The unlimited budget volume guarantees ongoing funding opportunities, while the lump-sum processing minimizes administrative effort. The goal is to sustainably strengthen regional artistic creation, promote international networking, and carry diverse cultural impulses from Styria out into the world.
