The State of Styria supports professional artists from all disciplines with a comprehensive scholarship program, providing them the opportunity to operate both nationally and internationally. Among the continuously announced grants are the Lichtungen Poetry Scholarship, a literature scholarship, a scholarship for innovative writing techniques, and the Nikolaus Harnoncourt Scholarship. Applicants with a musical focus can apply for the Andrzej Dobrowolski Composition Scholarship or various music scholarships, while visual artists can make use of working scholarships in connection with the Promotion Prize for Contemporary Visual Arts or the Ortwein Scholarships. The volume of funding is unlimited and is updated quarterly.
The funding measure aims to sustainably support professional artistic and cultural projects and to enable international networking. Applications can be submitted at any time, making timely application continuously possible. Funding is provided to artists who can already demonstrate professional activity and wish to further develop their artistic work on both national and international levels. The responsible institution is the Department of Culture, Europe, and Sports of the Styrian Provincial Government, which, in addition to this program, also coordinates EU and international projects and designs comprehensive educational offerings in the cultural sector. The continuous awarding of scholarships strengthens the cultural landscape of the region and contributes to sustainable development.
