Short-term care for guide dogs for the blind

Short-term care for guide dogs offers private individuals residing in Berlin the opportunity to actively contribute to animal welfare and social well-being. Committed volunteers take care of the trained dogs for limited periods when their regular handlers are, for example, on vacation or unable to care for them due to illness. This ensures that every guide dog continues to receive sufficient exercise, care, and human attention. Eligible participants are animal-loving individuals, couples, or families in the Berlin metropolitan area who have mobility for walks and can provide consent from all household members as well as the landlord. Permission to keep a dog is a prerequisite. Applications can be submitted at any time easily by phone or email to the German School for Guide Dogs Foundation. The continuously offered support option provides flexible deployment periods, allowing caregivers to optimally allocate their time resources. Through this commitment, mutual understanding of the needs of blind and visually impaired people is strengthened, and local democratic cohesion is promoted.
