Description

The Saarland State Fund for the Participation of Children and Youth supports innovative and fundamental projects that serve the age-appropriate social participation of young people. In a cooperation between the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Women and Health of Saarland and the German Children's Fund, a wide range of participatory initiatives is supported with a grant of up to 5,000 euros (in special cases up to 10,000 euros). The program strengthens the democratic participation of children’s and youth groups and encourages the development of alternative, participatory working methods. Funding priorities include fees, personnel costs, and material expenses, while ongoing operating costs of existing institutions are not eligible for funding.

The focus of the funding is on measures that involve children and young people – especially those affected by social disadvantage or with a migration background – in decision-making processes. Through active participation, the young project participants are to be enabled to learn about their rights and become politically active in the future. The funding program is aimed at non-profit organizations and public institutions in Saarland that design projects in the fields of children and youth as well as labour and social affairs. Furthermore, the implementation of the project is exclusively intended to take place in the Saarland region, and it is required that the project participants have not yet reached the age of 21. Cooperations with independent or public sponsors are expressly encouraged.

Applications are submitted online, with accompanying documents such as funding guidelines, FAQs, and general principles to be provided. A particular advantage lies in the ongoing funding opportunity, as applications can be submitted at any time, provided the project has not yet started and is completed by December 31 of the approval year at the latest. The funding decision is made in coordination between the commissioned body of Saarland and the German Children's Fund to ensure transparent and needs-based allocation of funds. Through these structured prerequisites, an important contribution is made to strengthening the participation of young people in their living environment.
