Description

The LEADER funding in Rhineland-Palatinate supports exemplary projects in rural areas that focus on sustainable and innovative development. As a European funding instrument based on a bottom-up approach, the program aims to strengthen innovation capacity, economic development, inter-municipal cooperation, as well as tourism and nature conservation. Eligible for funding are public institutions, interest groups, other associations, private individuals, and non-profit organizations located in one of the 21 recognized LEADER regions. Projects must be based in a LAG region, demonstrate a high level of innovation, and ensure local stakeholder involvement. Initiatives in the fields of regional development, agriculture & rural development, environmental/nature conservation, climate protection, and energy efficiency are particularly welcome. Funding is provided as a grant with a funding rate of up to 80%, whereby small projects must have costs between €1,000 and €20,000.

The focus is on climate change-adapted solutions, resource conservation, and addressing demographic change. Evaluation is based on criteria such as contribution to sustainable development, coherence with the Regional Integrated Rural Development Strategy (LILE), inter-municipal cooperation, and proof of the bottom-up approach. Close cooperation with the responsible LEADER Action Group (LAG) is a prerequisite for application; companies are excluded. The application deadline is the end of the EU funding period on December 31, 2027, with specific submission deadlines to be requested from the respective LAGs. Municipalities and private project sponsors receive comprehensive advice from the regional management, which maintains networks and supports project conception.
