Description
Since 1991, LEADER funding in Schleswig-Holstein has supported exemplary initiatives for the sustainable development of rural areas. The focus is on inter-municipal cooperation, climate protection, environmental and nature conservation, as well as strengthening regional economic power and tourism. Projects by private individuals, non-profit organizations, interest groups, associations, or public institutions are funded, which, using a bottom-up approach, test innovative solutions on-site for pressing challenges such as demographic change and resource conservation. The program enables intensive involvement of local actors in so-called LEADER action groups, in which citizens, representatives of administration, and business jointly decide on funding strategies and implement the regional development strategy.
Funding is provided as a grant with a funding rate of up to 80% of eligible costs and can be applied for small projects with a financial volume between €1,000 and €20,000. A prerequisite is proof of a project in the rural area of Schleswig-Holstein as well as own funds to cover the remaining financial requirements. Companies are excluded from support. Applications can be submitted to the regional action groups until December 31, 2027, with deadlines varying regionally. The maximum funding amount is €20,000. The regional management of the Active Regions advises interested parties on funding opportunities and supports projects from application to completion. Through the EU-funded initiative, a long-term and more resilient development of village areas in Schleswig-Holstein is ensured, and local actors are given the chance to realize their visions for a livable future.
