Description
The EU-funded program for the sustainable development of rural areas in Thuringia relies on a bottom-up approach, where regional action groups decide on the funding priorities. The focus is on projects in the fields of agriculture & rural development, culture, environmental and nature conservation, climate protection, as well as energy efficiency and renewable energies. The goal is to strengthen local innovation and economic strength, promote inter-municipal cooperation and tourism, and develop and test solutions to challenges such as demographic change, climate change, and resource conservation. Applicants from private individuals, non-profit associations, interest groups, public institutions, and other civic organizations can submit their projects digitally via the PORTIA portal starting November 2024. The funding amount generally covers up to 80% of eligible costs; own contributions are required. The application deadline is December 31, 2027, with specific deadlines depending on the respective action groups.
In particular, local actors who wish to improve life in villages and municipalities in the long term will find a suitable funding opportunity here. Whether revitalizing historic buildings, establishing innovative local recreation offers, or developing concepts for climate-friendly mobility – the program opens up diverse opportunities to test sustainable ideas for feasibility. Through intensive exchange within regional management and collaboration with experts, a strong network is created that releases synergies and makes the region future-proof. The funding program thus offers an excellent platform to specifically bundle and highlight engagement in the rural areas of Thuringia.
