Description

The Leibniz Scholarship of the Sir Hugh Carleton Greene Foundation supports research-oriented projects in science journalism that strengthen the dialogue between research and society through multimedia implementations. With an endowment of 4,000 euros, young media professionals are awarded who submit a creative research idea and plan an innovative format – such as video, podcast, or interactive storytelling elements. The funding is granted nationwide to individuals and aims to prepare complex scientific topics in an understandable way and make them accessible to a broad audience. Selection is based on the innovativeness of the idea, its societal relevance, and the planned multimedia implementation, with particular consideration given to contributions with high informational value and creative originality.

Interested journalists up to 35 years old with journalistic training or comparably acquired knowledge, living and working in Germany, can apply between May 15 and August 31, 2026. Required are a cover letter with contact details, a portrait photo, a tabular CV, a proposal including a timeline and research plan, as well as a link to a short video of up to 90 seconds. The funding covers 100% of the requested expenses and offers a unique opportunity to expand journalistic expertise in the science field. After reviewing all documents, the board of trustees decides on the award; the prize ceremony will take place on October 27, 2026, in Hanover. This scholarship provides young professionals access to a renowned network and lays the foundation for sustainable journalistic work with societal impact.
