Performance Compensation for Organic Farms in Conversion

The state of Vorarlberg provides biologically operating farms with a non-repayable grant throughout the entire conversion phase to ensure financial compensation for minor yield losses. This funding is part of the strategy for agriculture and rural development and has been established without a time limit since January 1, 2017. Applications can be submitted at any time, ensuring continuous coverage. Eligible for funding are agricultural enterprises in Vorarlberg that cultivate their land according to the requirements of organic farming and conclude a control contract with an accredited organic control body. Experts from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Areas provide advisory support and assist with the application process. All required documents – such as proof of the control agreement – must be attached to the funding application. Upon receipt, the responsible processing office reviews eligibility, determines the grant amount based on controlled land units, and initiates prompt payment, which usually occurs within a few weeks. This targeted support financially relieves converters, strengthens the market opportunities of regional providers, and promotes the appreciation of organically produced food in the rural areas of Vorarlberg.
