Description

The program “Radiant Seas of Blossoms – Wet Meadow Management” in Lower Saxony promotes the preservation and development of historically managed wet meadows in the Diepholz district. The goal is to restore species-rich meadow habitats through one to two mowings per year and the complete removal of the cuttings. This traditional management method prevents the matting of the vegetation layer and ensures that sensitive flowering plants such as the Broad-leaved Marsh Orchid or the Cuckoo Flower continue to find suitable living conditions. Ongoing subsidies support both private and public maintenance measures to halt the decline of this valuable biotope and allow blue, white, and red hues to bloom in radiant seas of blossoms.

Eligible for funding are private landowners, municipal authorities, and nature conservation organizations with ownership or usage rights to wet meadows in the Diepholz district. The Nature Conservation Foundation in the Diepholz district, recognized statewide since 1984 with over 450 managed biotopes and 670 hectares of land, provides the financial resources in the form of grants. Applicants must provide proof that the meadows are managed according to historical mowing guidelines. Through close cooperation with experts and local partners, the program contributes sustainably to species and climate protection and enables the maintenance of these conservation-relevant biotopes as living cultural assets.
