Description

The Liesel and Gisela Christ Scholarship is aimed at particularly talented acting students at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) who reside in Hesse. The goal of this award is to promote multilingualism as an artistic potential on stage. Awarded participants receive a monthly financial grant over twelve months to cover living expenses. With corresponding progress and further artistic commitment, the funding can be extended for an additional year. Eligible to apply are all enrolled students at the HfMDK who incorporate a dialect or a second native language alongside Standard German in performances, thereby making the diversity of regional and international language cultures tangible.

The selection takes place in autumn and considers stage presence, the artistic implementation of multilingualism, as well as previous academic achievements. A focus of the jury lies on the innovative use of dialects and second languages in theatrical performance. The scholarship is awarded by the Volkstheater Frankfurt – Liesel Christ, Liesel and Gisela Christ Foundation and strengthens the promotion of young talent in the fields of spoken theatre, culture, and media. Interested acting students can apply with proof of enrollment, language proficiency, and a stage project. This award connects the tradition of the Volkstheater with contemporary impulses and sets a clear emphasis on linguistic diversity and cultural participation on stage.
