Literature - Georg Trakl Prize and Georg Trakl Sponsorship Award

The Georg Trakl Prize and the Georg Trakl Sponsorship Prize of the State of Salzburg honor poetic achievements in the German-speaking region and support the literary work of young talents. The Georg Trakl Prize, endowed with €10,000, recognizes an already extensively published complete oeuvre and is awarded by an independent jury committee without a submission process to poets who have a biographical connection to Salzburg. In parallel, a specialist jury awards the Georg Trakl Sponsorship Prize of €5,000 to authors of unpublished poetry collections. This award aims to bring unpublished lyrical texts into the spotlight and promote the poetic diversity of the region. Since its inception in October 2013, the call for submissions has been open indefinitely, enabling continuous support of cultural poetic art.

Eligible to apply are German-speaking poets with a place of birth, residence, study, or employment in Salzburg, provided they have not yet been awarded the Georg Trakl Sponsorship Prize. The jury decision ensures a fair and anonymous evaluation, whereby for the Sponsorship Prize, 15 unpublished poetic texts in triplicate, proof of connection to Salzburg, and a completed submission form must be submitted. The funding rate is 100%, and the current deadlines can be found on the cultural calls pages of the State of Salzburg. This prize and award format makes a sustainable contribution to the literary scene and positions Salzburg as an important driving force for contemporary poetry.
