Description
Market Activation of Alternative Technologies for Environmentally Friendly Onboard Power and Mobile Shore Power Supply for Sea and Inland Waterway Vessels (OnboardPowerTech II) supports companies and public institutions nationwide in investing in innovative onboard power and mobile shore power systems. The funding program aims to establish sustainable energy technologies onboard sea and inland waterway vessels as well as port-side infrastructure offerings, thereby significantly reducing CO₂ emissions in maritime transport. Eligible applicants are natural or legal persons under private or public law who act as owners of the funded system and can demonstrate a place of business or branch office in Germany. All company sizes may apply, with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) benefiting from higher funding rates.
Up to 80% of eligible expenses are funded – for example, for energy storage and associated systems, energy converters, plug-in systems, or power transfer systems – with a maximum amount of €5 million in seaports and €2 million in inland ports. The funding rate ranges from 40% for ship-owned supply systems up to 80% for mobile shore power supply systems as infrastructure offerings. A prerequisite for funding is the commencement of the project within six months after the funding approval and proof of secured financing. The application must be submitted to the responsible Federal Agency for Administrative Services no later than three months before the expiration of the guideline. This program offers market participants the opportunity to establish alternative propulsion solutions while simultaneously making a significant contribution to climate protection in maritime transport.
