Since 2018, newly researched legend plaques have been installed monthly at over 120 locations in Marl, explaining the origin and significance of selected street names. Historians document biographical and historical backgrounds – from personalities such as Brassert to terms like "Hüppelswick" – and make them accessible to residents and visitors through additional panels. Funding is provided through donations and grants, enabling the continuous growth of this vibrant urban history offering.
Eligible for funding are private individuals, non-profit organizations, and companies interested in culture, education, and local history. Applications can be submitted at any time, as the Marler Citizens' Foundation offers ongoing funding opportunities.
