Description

In Vienna, media funding supports periodically published leading media in the minority languages Slovenian, Croatian, Hungarian, Czech, Slovak, and Romani. The goal is the permanent preservation of the indigenous minority groups as well as the safeguarding of their language, culture, and rights. As a grant, the federal government promotes the maintenance and further development of these publications over a funding period of twelve months. The 2026/2027 funding call covers both traditional printing and production costs as well as digital media development and personnel expenses. Applications can be submitted until November 16, 2025.

Eligible applicants include non-profit associations, foundations and funds, churches and religious communities, as well as public institutions, provided they are recognized by the respective minority advisory councils as periodically published leading media. Essential requirements are fundamental reliability, transparency of financing, and availability of funding. Applications must be submitted exclusively online via the transparency portal and must include a completed application form, activity tracking sheets, a detailed cost calculation, the most recent annual financial statement, an editorial concept, and for first-time applications, the statutes or rental, service, and publishing contracts. This support not only ensures the publication capacity of minority media but also significantly contributes to strengthening intercultural understanding and balancing cultural diversity in Austria.
