Description

The state of Salzburg supports media art projects with a clear connection to the federal state and thereby promotes the experimental engagement with digital and electronic media. Funding is provided for annual programs as well as individual grants for associations, institutions, and non-commercial media based and active in Salzburg, as well as for individual projects by media artists. In addition, independent experts annually award a one-year scholarship of €10,000 for innovative media art. The aim is to further develop the combination of traditional and new media – from audio, video, and holography to interactive online and computer applications – and to fully exploit the creative potential of modern technologies. The initiative is equally aimed at private individuals, non-profit organizations, and interest groups that seek to open new perspectives through artistic concepts and strengthen Salzburg as a vibrant location for digital art.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis without a fixed deadline; an independent jury assesses the eligibility for funding. Requirements include a clear biographical or thematic connection to Salzburg as well as a concept of no more than five pages outlining both objectives and media-related implementation. Participants submit a completed funding application and submission form, provide proof of the Salzburg connection, and document their artistic practice with a CV including a list of works. Upon completion of the project, a report on the use of funds must be submitted. This includes documentation of the project as well as an overview of the expenditure of funds. The transparent combination of continuous funding and the annual scholarship offers media artists and non-profit organizations diverse opportunities to realize innovative projects in Salzburg and to sustainably invigorate the regional media art scene.
