Description
The funding program from Berlin supports qualified master craftsmen in their initial entrepreneurial self-employment, business takeovers, or active participation in the capital. The goal is the sustainable strengthening of the artisanal SME sector by creating additional social security-contributing jobs and training positions. A prerequisite is a free initial consultation through the Berlin Chamber of Crafts. Participants must implement the founding, takeover, or participation in their certified craft sector in Berlin within four years after passing the German master craftsman examination and must not generate significant secondary income during the three-year commitment period. EU, EEA nationals, or holders of a corresponding residence permit are eligible for funding; for participations, a minimum share of 30% is required.
The funding is provided in the form of a one-time, conditionally repayable grant and can amount to up to €25,000. The first tranche amounts to €10,000 (women’s bonus in female-typical professions: €15,000). After three years of self-employment, a second tranche can be applied for to fill a social security-contributing job (€6,000) or a training position (€7,500; women’s bonus €10,000). Required documentation includes, among others, the master craftsman certificate, business registration, craft card, De-minimis declaration, and credit report. The basic application must be submitted before commencing the activity, and the follow-up application within six months after the end of the first three years. The guideline is valid until December 31, 2027, thus providing master craftsmen with a reliable planning perspective for consolidating their business in Berlin.
