Description

The masterclass epochef international in Lower Saxony offers young musicians between 14 and 20 years old, who have won first or second prizes in national and European youth music competitions, a unique opportunity to engage intensively with contemporary music. Under the guidance of renowned instructors from the International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) and together with Ensemble Modern, works from the 20th and 21st centuries are studied in individual, group, and full ensemble rehearsals. The practical teaching of new music playing techniques, the joint preparation of a commissioned composition, and the final concerts – both in Lower Saxony and abroad in Europe – promote artistic excellence, international networking, and practical concert experience at the highest level.

The scholarship from the "Jugend musiziert Niedersachsen" Foundation covers 100% of all relevant expenses: course fees, meals, accommodation, as well as travel costs to the final concerts. Participation is possible through personal invitations from the foundation or unsolicited applications from prize winners of the federal competition "Jugend musiziert" and the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY). The one-month course is aimed at woodwind players, brass players, string players, pianists, and percussionists with already advanced technical and artistic skills. Through close collaboration with professional musicians and working on demanding scores, the masterclass not only serves as a springboard into the world of new music but also creates sustainable networks and imparts valuable experience in music education and ensemble practice.
