Description
The Mercator College for International Affairs is a nationwide fellowship program of the Mercator Foundation and the German National Academic Foundation, which brings together experienced professionals and executives from all sectors to develop forward-looking solutions for global challenges under the guiding theme “Europe in the World 2030 – Sustainable Visions for an Inclusive and Secure Future.” Applicants sought are master’s or doctoral graduates with at least one year of reliable professional experience after graduation, very good English and fluent German skills, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Application documents for the start in January 2027 can be submitted until June 15, 2026, including a project outline, curriculum vitae, academic certificates, and proof of practical experience. Selection is based on professional qualifications, an intersectoral approach, and the relevance of the project to pressing international issues.
Over a period of twelve months, the College enables a cohort of 20 fellows to engage in interdisciplinary exchange through three multi-day seminars at changing European locations, as well as optional practical stays of six to ten months in various sectors and world regions. Funding includes a monthly basic scholarship of 2,200 euros, allowances for stays abroad and care responsibilities, coverage of travel expenses, health and liability insurance, and training allowances. The thematic range extends from climate issues and geoeconomics to peace promotion and digitalization. Through the combination of individual practical phases and a demanding framework program, participants are empowered to act as changemakers, shaping sustainable, inclusive cooperation models for a strongly networked Europe and beyond.
