Description
The MTZ® Award for Systems Medicine honors outstanding doctoral dissertations by young early-career researchers in the field of systems-oriented health research every two years. In close professional cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Jülich Project Management Agency, the MTZ® Foundation recognizes innovative concepts, scientific excellence, and significance for systems medicine. The call for nominations for the next award will take place in autumn 2025, with the ceremonial presentation scheduled for May 2026 at Mannheim Baroque Palace during the international conference “Systems Biology of Mammalian Cells.” Individuals who have completed their doctoral degree in the field of systems medicine or medical systems biology, whose work was conducted within the framework of funding measures by the BMBF, and who can demonstrate residency or nationality in Germany are invited to apply. Sought are dissertations that significantly advance the state of knowledge in systems medicine and demonstrate the potential to revolutionize clinical applications through computer-based models and big data analyses.
Submission requires an excerpt from the dissertation, a tabular curriculum vitae, and a complete list of publications. Selection is made by a national expert panel that evaluates the level of innovation, scientific quality, and contribution to systems-oriented health research. The award not only provides recipients with international visibility among the professional audience but also opens access to a strong network of leading research institutions and funding programs. The MTZ® Award for Systems Medicine thus supports not only excellent scientific careers but also promotes the translation of systems biology approaches into the medicine of the future.
