Museum Prize Hesse-Thuringia

The Museum Prize Hessen-Thuringia is awarded every two years by the Sparkassen Cultural Foundation Hessen-Thuringia in cooperation with the Hessian Museum Association and the Thuringian Museum Association. It honors public museums under municipal or private sponsorship as well as networks and associations of museums in the federal states of Hessen and Thuringia that have distinguished themselves through an especially successful concept or outstanding practical work. With a main prize of 25,000 euros, the award recognizes exemplary achievements in the museum sector and emphasizes the importance of museum institutions for the cultural diversity and historical awareness of the region.

The funding objective of the Museum Prize is to further strengthen the cultural commitment of the awardees and to create incentives for the development of innovative mediation formats. The jury evaluates submitted projects based on artistic and professional quality, the sustainability of the concept, and the social impact on site. Through targeted recognition, museums are encouraged to continuously develop their programs and to consolidate their role as vibrant places of encounter and learning. The prize is specifically aimed at institutions that competently and creatively fulfill their public mandate and thus make a significant contribution to the cultural landscape of Hessen and Thuringia.
