Description

The nationwide grant program of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises, public institutions, and research institutions based in Germany. It supports research, development, and demonstration projects in the areas of energy efficiency & renewable energies, agriculture & rural development, energy efficiency & climate protection, as well as climate protection. Within the framework of a two-stage process via the Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe (FNR), up to 100% of eligible costs for basic research, up to 50% for industrial research, and up to 25% for experimental development can be subsidized. The goal is the development of innovative technologies, processes, and products for the sustainable extraction, processing, and use of renewable resources, thereby strengthening the bioeconomy and achieving climate and environmental protection objectives.

Prerequisites for funding include, among other things, a location in Germany, demonstrated federal interest in the project, professional qualification, sufficient personnel and material resources, as well as secured overall financing. Eligible costs include, for example, personnel costs, equipment, materials and supplies, contract research, license fees, consulting and service costs, travel expenses, and an overhead allowance. Excluded are, among others, the acquisition of land and buildings, passenger cars, office furnishings, leasing and rental costs, taxes, and fully depreciated assets. Selection is based on criteria such as contribution to a sustainable bioeconomy, degree of innovation, resource efficiency, knowledge and technology transfer, and societal dialogue.
