Description

The funding program “Sustainable Renewable Resources” of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Homeland (BMLEH) supports applied research and development for the sustainable production and use of renewable biomass from agriculture, forestry, and waste management. As a nationwide open grant program, it is aimed at educational institutions, companies, public and non-profit organizations based in Germany. The focus is on projects that test and optimize innovative methods for the extraction, processing, and utilization of renewable raw materials. Relevant topics include climate protection, environmental and nature conservation, energy efficiency, as well as agriculture and rural development. Ongoing calls for proposals ensure flexible planning and enable timely submissions for research projects ranging from basic research to application-oriented demonstration.

Particularly interested are research institutes, universities, companies, and consortia from the bioeconomy sector as well as other stakeholders aiming to implement application-oriented projects for sustainable biomass use. A prerequisite for funding is a project sponsor based in Germany and a demonstrably applied research and development project within the funding scope. The project sponsor is the Agency for Renewable Resources (FNR) based in Gülzow-Prüzen, which supports applicants during project implementation and manages the administrative process. The program’s goal is to advance practical solutions for a climate-friendly bioeconomy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen innovation capacity in the field of sustainable raw material cycles.
