Description
Sustainable Mobility in Saarland – Accessibility is a funding program that supports public institutions in cities, municipalities, and districts in making bus stops in Saarland accessible. Within the state’s sustainable mobility strategy, targeted investments are made in the expansion, conversion, and new construction of stops to ensure access to public local transport (ÖPNV) for all people, especially persons with disabilities. The measure includes a grant covering 90 percent of the eligible costs. Recognized technical standards as well as a specific accessibility guideline are applied, whose detailed specifications are used for planning and implementation.
The program is aimed at municipal actors, with application submission mandatory before the start of the measure. The funding requirements include compliance with technical standards, which among other things encompass normative requirements according to DIN standards and recommendations from the Research Association for Roads and Transportation (FGSV). By precisely aligning the structural measures with the needs of people with mobility impairments, the accessibility boost in public local transport is sustainably advanced. Additionally, the funding ensures that existing and planned stops meet the demands of inclusive infrastructure in urban areas through supplementary technical and design measures – for example, via dynamic passenger information systems and integrated tactile ground indicators.
The project not only supports the expansion of an accessible bus stop infrastructure but also promotes the overall improvement of mobility and quality of life in Saarland. The financial relief makes it easier for the participating municipalities to implement projects in the spirit of sustainable and inclusive mobility. The implementation of the funding measure ensures a high standard in public local transport in the long term, which meets the current and future mobility needs of an aging and diverse society. Comprehensive planning and transparent documentation of the measures are essential prerequisites to sustainably guarantee the success of the funding program within the framework of NMOB Accessibility.
