Description

Sustainable Mobility in Saarland promises an innovative approach with the project “flexible service forms in public transport (FRL-NMOB-On Demand),” which aims to modernize public local transport in rural areas. The funding program targets public institutions and public transport authorities, excluding regional rail transport, that develop pilot projects for the introduction of digitally bookable on-demand services. By supporting concepts for the financing and operation of digitized demand-responsive transport lines, operational cost deficits are to be overcome, marketing measures supported, and everyday mobility sustainably improved. Special emphasis is placed on compliance with legal requirements, such as approval eligibility according to §44 PBefG, as well as the provision of barrier-free vehicles.

Within the framework of the funding program, grant financing is provided with a funding rate of 65% to 75% over a maximum project duration of 36 months. With funding amounts of up to €500,000 per project, and in exceptional cases up to €700,000, comprehensive initiatives can be realized that advance the digital transformation of public transport in Saarland. The program supports not only the development of innovative concepts but also the implementation of accompanying marketing measures that contribute to the establishment and acceptance of the new mobility offering. The integrative approach enables various local authorities to cooperatively participate in solutions and to make public transport attractive and safe for people with limited mobility.

Based on Saarland’s sustainable mobility strategy, the project places special focus on digital innovations and the bundling of travel requests to ensure flexible and demand-oriented traffic management. Interoperability, for example through the technical integration of distribution software into the Saarfahrplan app, represents an important component. The funding also promotes the expansion of information and traffic technologies as well as the strengthening of regional networks. Knowledgeable experts who present their innovative mobility concepts in project outlines and formal funding applications make a significant contribution to improving accessibility quality and promoting a climate-friendly, resource-conserving transport system. The program thus invites committed stakeholders to actively participate in the transformation of public transport in Saarland.
