Description
The Weser-Ems Environmental Foundation supports the planting and care of young oaks in the former territory of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg through the program "Descendants of the Friederike Oak for the Oldenburg Region." In cooperation with the Lower Saxony State Forests, young trees grown from the acorns of the historic Friederike Oak in Hasbruch are provided and distributed free of charge to eligible municipalities. Each municipality can receive a maximum of two descendants, accompanied by an information board highlighting their symbolic significance and climate protection aspects. The initiative emphasizes the importance of old oaks as ecological guardians and draws attention to the challenges posed by drought and extreme weather. The goal is to strengthen nature and climate protection through targeted replanting, promote regional identity in the Oldenburg region, and raise environmental awareness among future generations.
All expenses for planting material and information boards are funded at 100%, while personnel costs are excluded. Eligible to apply are municipalities located in the Weser-Ems area; formal applications with a project description, proof of own funds or in-kind contributions, and specification of the planting site can be submitted at any time. Evaluation criteria include the contribution to species and climate protection, the location within the Oldenburg region, and a verifiable own funding quota. The Weser-Ems Environmental Foundation provides the trees free of charge and supports their professional planting and care in the long term. Through this sustainable regional promotion, green settings are created that enhance environmental awareness and enable a lively dialogue between people and nature.
