Description
The Foundation for People and the Environment supports the transformation of residential and corporate open spaces into blooming oases of biodiversity in Berlin through the program “Nature-Oriented Green Spaces – Meeting Points of Diversity.” An interdisciplinary natural garden team advises interested parties, designs nature-oriented plans, and implements diverse green projects – from PikoParks and stepping stone biotopes to greened rooftop gardens and raised beds. The goal is to transform both small and large areas into sustainable habitats for insects and small animals. Through native wild plants, dry stone walls, deadwood piles, and water points, “Meeting Points of Diversity” are created that also serve as places of encounter for neighbors, play and recreational areas for children, as well as attractive work environments in companies. Funding is provided continuously as soon as a suitable open space in Berlin is available for nature-oriented design.
Housing cooperatives, small and medium-sized enterprises, schools, public and non-profit institutions with potential open spaces are eligible for funding. The prerequisite is a location in Berlin and the availability of free spaces to be redesigned in an insect-friendly and biodiversity-promoting manner. Nature-oriented greening not only creates habitat islands for endangered animal species but also strengthens social meeting spaces. Companies can additionally improve their sustainability profile and motivate employees in the long term. Applications and project inquiries can be submitted at any time; continuous funding opportunities guarantee flexible planning and implementation. With “Nature-Oriented Green Spaces – Meeting Points of Diversity,” the Foundation makes an active contribution to environmental, climate, and nature conservation in the metropolis while simultaneously promoting community cohesion in urban neighborhoods.
