Pop-Up Use

The City of Graz supports the temporary use of vacated commercial spaces as pop-up stores through a generous grant program. The aim of this measure is the revitalizing interim use of unused spaces to reduce vacancies and diversify the urban offerings in Graz’s city center. 75% of eligible costs are funded—up to a maximum of €3,000 per project—with a minimum duration of four weeks. This creates opportunities for citizens, businesses, and non-profit organizations to implement innovative sales and event concepts, reach new target groups, and gain valuable experience in retail or the event industry.

Eligible applicants include private individuals, commercial enterprises, and non-profit organizations seeking to activate vacant spaces in Graz. Applications are accepted from anyone planning a pop-up use for at least four weeks; eligible costs include rent and associated ancillary costs. Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis, allowing project ideas to be realized without fixed deadlines. The Department of Economic & Tourism Development of the City of Graz supports the application process and ensures straightforward handling. Through the partnership of the city, the State of Styria, and other institutions, a network is created that promotes both start-up and growth initiatives and contributes to strengthening the local economy.
