Description
This research program supports companies, public institutions, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions in the EU in developing predictive systems using Artificial Intelligence and Big Data that enable traffic authorities to carry out real-time interventions and detect safety-critical traffic situations at an early stage. Within 36 months, methods and tools are to be developed that reliably predict accidents and actively support their prevention. The grant of €5 million covers 100% of personnel costs, material expenses, subcontractor services, as well as data collection and analysis – real estate investments are not eligible for funding. Submissions are possible until January 20, 2026.
Funding is provided to consortia of at least three independent partners from different EU member states or associated countries, who have proven expertise in traffic safety research and AI as well as access to extensive traffic data and real-time sources. Small and medium-sized enterprises particularly benefit from the one hundred percent funding rate. Evaluation is based on the degree of innovation, sustainability aspects, and relevance for municipalities, traffic and road authorities, as well as mobility service providers. Required application documents include a comprehensive project description, a detailed cost and financing plan, CVs of key personnel, and a data protection and ethics plan. Through its interdisciplinary approach and close practical relevance, the project aims to sustainably improve traffic safety in European cities and regions and to serve as a model demonstrating how AI-based forecasting and intervention systems can make future traffic management safer.
