Description
The EU funding initiative supports a cross-border cooperation and training network for the prevention and investigation of illegal trade in cultural goods. Public institutions, educational establishments, and companies from EU member states as well as associated countries can apply for consortium funding. A prerequisite is a consortium consisting of at least three security practitioner organizations from three EU countries, at least two scientific research institutions, and an experienced project coordinator. The projects are intended to benefit law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities, and cultural heritage experts through the use of digital tools. The focus is on standardizing existing instruments, consolidating data platforms, and establishing interactive training formats for evidence collection, analysis, and prevention of cultural goods smuggling. The duration is 24 months, with a maximum funding amount of €5 million per project, at a funding rate of 100%. Eligible costs include personnel and material expenses, travel costs, as well as expenses for events and project management.
To apply, a detailed proposal including a budget table, ethics self-assessment, and proof of financial capacity must be submitted by 23.09.2026. Selection is based on innovation content, relevance to the target group, and quality of the cooperation concept. Approved projects contribute to raising awareness and data harmonization within the European security community. Through interoperable data structures and a sustainability-oriented governance model, operational processes in law enforcement and cultural protection are to be strengthened in the long term. The initiatives thus make an important contribution to social cohesion, digitalization, and education & training in Europe.
