Description
The Program for the Development and Exploration of the Arts (PEEK) supports innovative arts-based research, where artistic practice is at the center of scientific inquiry. The aim is to strengthen the research competence and quality of Austrian arts-based researchers as well as to enhance their international reputation. Projects at Austrian research institutions with a duration of up to 48 months and a funding amount of up to 450,000 euros covering 100% of eligible costs are supported. These include personnel expenses and material costs directly related to the project-specific research process. The biannual decision meetings of the FWF Board of Trustees are based on international peer review and recommendations from the PEEK jury to ensure the innovation content and scientific quality of the projects.
Eligible for funding are artistically and scientifically active individuals with the appropriate qualifications who conduct their research at a suitable Austrian institution with the necessary infrastructure. The continuous submission deadline via the electronic portal elane allows for flexible project planning. Prerequisites for funding include proof of the applicant’s artistic-scientific qualifications and the assurance of project-related infrastructure. Evaluation criteria include the degree of innovation, scientific depth, and international peer review. The program is equally aimed at individuals and educational institutions that combine creative methods and scientific knowledge processes to generate new impulses for art, culture, research, and media.
